I’m a Real Actress!

A day that I believe may change me! Only time will tell.

No, no one cut me a check for my acting. But on this day, August 4, 2021, I became a real actress! Allow me to explain, but first, the obligatory outfit and a little behind the scene information.

I used this day to prepare for the fashion show. By that I mean I will be Kandi from 10:00am until I report for duty until probably after 11:00pm. I will be in and out of clothing. I will be backstage with the other women who are modeling, all of us in various states of undress. I, of course, will fool no one, but I want to be as authentic as possible. I vetted my new multi-way, push up bra, which will allow me to go strapless or use any style bra required. We are required to wear nude undergarments with no visible panty lines, so I gave my new lingerie a spin.

Without going into great detail, I taped things I have either never taped or have rarely taped. Everything was wonderful, but not something I could do every time out. Again, without details, using the ladies room was a revelation! Look, much of what you see here comes down to logistics. How to make it all work given my body, my desired look and my wanting to be as much a woman as is possible. Sacrifices are made, work is done, secret, unseen things are required.

The outfit was this cute Banana Republic top and a skirt, both recent clothing exchange acquisitions. I was damn proud of how I looked and am really happy with my make up lately. I made a few small adjustments, by using only different style brushes and I am thrilled with the results!

I spent about an hour and a half at the upscale shopping complex where the improv studio is located beforehand. It was a perfect day! To walk up and down, in and out of stores, a lovely sun, feeling so pretty, with people all over the place….bliss! My reflection on each store front as I walked, almost runway-like, all around. My dinner was great and the nightcap sitting cross-legged at an outdoor bar…priceless!

During class two different exercises really stood out. In one, I played a dementia patient against the young lady that played my caretaker. I went serious, then playful, then absent-minded, it was (if I must say so myself, and I will) spectacular! Now this is where I believe I became a real actress. I actually felt the character inside me and after the performance, my cheeks were soaked with real tears! It was amazing and I hope, truly transformative.

Later I played the mother to my daughter. We improvised her totaling the car and my inability to make the insurance payment. It was again a bit serious and I really exuded love for my daughter. Afterward, Cole (my “daughter) said to everyone in our recap of the scene “Kandi, you were the cutest mom!”. I am getting misty now as I write this.

The cherry on the top, walking into the house, having my wife tell me my top was cute and for me to tell her about these two performances.

How very blessed am I?

Quickie Post: Sunday, August 15, 2021 I attended yet another different church, different denomination. I walked in knowing no one.

As often happens, either just because I was a new face or I am THIS face, probably both, many came over to welcome me and say hello. It is truly wonderful. No real long story. I sat comfortably and relaxed and enjoyed the service. I then hit a farmer’s market and returned home.

The outfit, A++! Just the perfect Sunday outfit. It took me quite a while to get this one just right once I decided on the skirt as my center piece. When I came up with the black tank top, everything else just fell into place. I had tried a gold top and just couldn’t make that work well. Oh the joys of womanhood…….

  1. Kandi, the improv outfit is so cute, I really like the one-shoulder top. And you are so confident in wearing that jean miniskirt! The makeup looks fabulous (as always).

I went to the Bridal Gallery page and my jaw dropped! What a gorgeous dress!!! I’m awaiting the story of that day, I’m sure you had an amazing time. ❤

    1. Tina, Thanks so much! I hate to tell you, but I already told the story of the day. It really wasn’t much of a story. We did the shoot in a very public park. I put the dress on over my existing clothing (minus the blouse) and I got dressed in a port-a-john (just delivered, so it was very clean). It was over 90 degrees, but it took so long to get the shoot scheduled, we ran with it. We were basically just executing photographs, I wasn’t able to revel in the occasion as I was baking in the dress. Time was of the essence so I didn’t completely melt. The clasp on my pearls broke, so what you see are pearls taped to the back of my neck with packaging tape. It is not quite what I had hoped for, but it came out nicely. I need to find someone to take photos for free to do what I really want because this whole endeavor has far exceeded my budget for it!!

You know what, this is actually a story!

  2. Oh my goodness I love the first outfit you look so cute and feminine in it.
You are really getting out there and it’s just fantastic.
There are days I wish I had time to do these kind of things but my time because of my job is limited
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful experience
    Hugs Rachael

    1. Rach, I know and have acknowledged that my work schedule allows me great flexibility and for that I am grateful. Thank you so much for your always sweet and supportive comments!!

  3. Kandi, the improv story made me want to do the same thing. Dressing up and going out is one thing but immersing yourself so completely must have been exhilarating. I also love your outfits. They suit you and the occasions so well.

    1. The key for me has been doing things regardless of my attire. It literally becomes a non-issue over time and it wonderful!! Thank you dear!!
